The best sport in the world? Football.
The 2nd best sport in the world? Waiting for football to start.
We are all about to be in the 2nd best sport after tomorrow. I will be cooking for a few hundred people (mostly Seahawk fans, ugh) and then I’ll be back to doing draft prep. There’s nothing but hope for the future with this San Francisco 49ers team. They have the pieces in place to reclaim the dynasty, it’s just a matter of hope now that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch can get us there.
In other news, Terrell Owens has (finally) made a hall of fame class and will be inducted to the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame. I know a lot of people are against it, especially after his comments about not being inducted as a 49er, but there’s no denying his ability when he played in his prime.
That said, I’m glad he’s not a 1st-ballot hall of famer. His toxicity as a teammate and inability to show humility during his NFL career are things that should knock down any Hall of Fame finalist (though it doesn’t seem to carry over as much as one would like). I’m fine with TO getting in, I just wanted him to sweat it out. He did, and now’s the time for him to go in. Unfortunately, John Lynch did not make it in.
It’s not going to get any better with the competition that comes in next year. Ed Reed is scheduled for a voting and voters are reluctant to vote the same position twice—especially safety, in a hall of fame induction.
Hopefully Lynch makes it in at some point. There’s just too much competition. Though he’s definitely underrated—few people could have taken that Tampa 2 defense and used it the way he did.
