Super Bowl 52 pick against the spread

It is officially Super Bowl day, and it would not be an NFL game if I did not get in my pick agains the spread. The line on this game opened with the New England Patriots as six-point favorites, but heavy early wagering on the Philadelphia Eagles dropped the line to as low as four points. It currently sits as Patriots favored by 4.5 points, according to our friends at Odds Shark. The point total has settled in at 48.5.

I hope the Eagles win, but I think the Patriots win and cover in this one. I don’t think it will be a straight blowout, but I don’t think it will come down to closing minutes. I’d argue that is a bit of a bold prediction in part because the Patriots have a history of closer Super Bowls. Last year’s victory was the first time the Patriots have won by more than four points, and obviously last year saw a huge comeback and an overtime win. All seven games have come down to the wire.

I’m not making this pick based on some idea that they’re due for an easier win. But I am comfortable betting against Nick Foles. I suppose that’s not the best idea based on the Eagles’ first two playoff games, but on this kind of thing, I think he’s due for a bit of a stinker. I could see the Eagles taking an early lead given the Patriots first quarter Super Bowl struggles (they’ve never scored a point in the first quarter), but I think we see the Patriots cruise to victory.

Make sure and get your prediction in for the prediction contest, and also get your picks in for our prop bet contest.

Who you taking with this 4.5 point spread?
