It’s an exciting time for fans of the San Francisco 49ers, and apparently there are players who might like to join this wild ride. Newly signed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo told KNBR on Friday that he has already heard from players outside the Bay Area who are excited about what is building in Santa Clara.
“That’s kind of how this thing goes. Guys reach out to other guys rather than coaches or executives. Just in the last 48 hours, to be honest, I’ve had texts and messages from guys. They’re excited about it. It’s a place that, why wouldn’t you want to be here? It’s gorgeous outside year round, we’re a young, up and coming team, we’ve got a phenomenal coaching staff. It’s an exciting time out here in the Bay Area, and hopefully a lot of guys want to experience that, too.”
We don’t know who the 49ers will be targeting in free agency vs. the draft. We don’t know what offers other teams will have. We don’t know a lot of things about the coming league business. And yet, it’s hard not to get excited about what’s brewing for the 49ers. They have a lot of work in front of them, but a window for contention is open. I’m not saying they’re going to win the Super Bowl this year, but they are quickly progressing in the right direction.
