Report: 49ers sign Richard Sherman to 3-year contract

The San Francisco 49ers need help at cornerback, and Richard Sherman knows this defense as well as anybody.

The San Francisco 49ers and cornerback Richard Sherman have reached agreement on a three-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. There are no specifics on the contract beyond that, but I’d imagine the deal contains some outs for the 49ers if things go south, as most of their deals have had this offseason.

This wasn’t a long courting period, obviously. Sherman was released quickly, met up with the 49ers quickly, and talks were apparently quite productive between the two sides. Sherman, 29, is coming off a ruptured Achilles and there are concerns about his recovery going forward.

Reports throughout the past 24 hours have suggested that Sherman took a physical with the 49ers, and given this deal, it’s safe to say that the team’s medical staff feel comfortable that Sherman will return to All-Pro form, especially with a three-year deal on the table. Sherman will turn 30 by the time the regular season gets underway.
