Report: Case Keenum to sign with the Broncos

One QB needy team is off the market. This may affect the 49ers’ draft plans.

The Kirk Cousins saga now narrows to three. Case Keenum is expected to sign with the Denver Broncos when free agency begins on March 14th, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Keenum is coming off the best season of his career, by far. He threw for over 3,500 yards and completed 67.6 percent of his passes. He managed to get the Minnesota Vikings into the NFC Championship game and proceeded to have an awful showing. The Vikings were blown out by the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

This narrows the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes to three teams, per Schefter. They include the Vikings, the New York Jets, and the Arizona Cardinals. Schefter is hearing the Vikings remain the favorites.

This move helps soften the Broncos move as well. Picking 5th in the draft, the Broncos can now either decide to draft their quarterback of the future to eventually take over from Keenum or get a nice juicy trade with one of the eventual quarterback needy teams.

The latter certainly doesn’t help the San Francisco 49ers if they were looking to trade back. But remember, it’s much more expensive to get to 5th than it is to 9th.
