Possibly the biggest wide receiver on the market will not be coming to the Bay Area. Allen Robinson will be signing with the Chicago Bears when Free Agency begins on March 14th per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal is expected to be for three years and worth $42 million, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Robinson, 24 was selected in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. His tenure with the team essentially came to an end with an ACL tear in week 1 of the 2017 season.
Many hoped Robinson would be coming to the San Francisco 49ers to play with Jimmy Garoppolo. There were some reports suggesting it may happen but there were also reports saying the 49ers were not interested in a splash signing during free agency.
The 49ers wide receiver corps has Pierre Garcon helming things with Marquise Goodwin and Trent Taylor not far behind. Kendrick Bourne has shown some great things in his rookie season and a free agent acquisition from last year, Aldrick Robinson has been useful in a pinch. Perhaps the 49ers thought adding [Allen] Robinson wasn’t worth the money given the talent they have finally stockpiled to the position and decided to go a different direction.
