It appears there won’t be a developing controversy on Richard Sherman getting to keep his number from the Seattle Seahawks. Sherman wore the No. 25 jersey while with the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie ward has been wearing the number while with the 49ers.
But no more! Sherman stated in a recent KNBR appearance that he has worked things out get the number 25 with Ward following “a good conversation.”
“We had a good conversation and he’s going to give me my number, which is cool and a testament to him,” Sherman said. “He’s a great guy. And he told me the story of why he wore the number and it actually meant a lot to him. So I appreciated him being willing to give me a chance at it.”
What number will Ward wear? No one knows. Personally, I would have liked to see Sherman wearing number 12 just to rib the 1-2 man when he goes to Seattle. The number 12 is retired in Seattle and used exclusively for jersey sales with “Fan” printed on the back. But unfortunately, cornerbacks cannot wear the number.
