Best remaining free agents after day 1

The 49ers got two players deemed their top priorities. Will they have any other priorities after the first wave?

The San Francisco 49ers made three notable moves on Wednesday to start free agency. Day 1 saw the 49ers sign center Weston Richburg and running back Jerick McKinnon, and re-sign linebacker Brock Coyle. This followed the Richard Sherman signing last week.

Wednesday was a busy day, and there are still a few big names that will be wrapping up their deals on Thursday. This moves us into the second stage of free agency, where value can be found. The 49ers likely are done making splashy moves, but they can still find some useful depth parts.

SB Nation put together a rundown of the best free agents still available. Some positions the 49ers could still look at include wide receiver, edge rusher, and defensive backs. The best wide receivers include Terrelle Pryor, Jordan Matthews, Jordy Nelson, and Mike Wallace. The 49ers have been linked to Pryor and Nelson, but it does not appear a visit has been scheduled yet with either.

At edge rusher, Adrian Clayborn and Alex Okafor are viewed as the two best options available. At defensive back, safety Tyrann Mathieu is arguably the best player available. The 49ers have solid depth at safety, but Mathieu’s versatility would be helpful in the secondary.
