I am really impressed with the moves the 49ers have made so far in free agency. We needed a better center so we signed the best center available. We needed a cornerback so we signed the prototype cornerback for the system we run. We needed a back that both Shanahan and Bobby Turner could mold to our offense and we got that too.
The idea that we were able to unload Daniel Kilgore after signing Weston Richburg without having any dead money may have been the greatest accomplishment of all. Shanahan and Lynch are definitely building this team brick by brick.
I know some people are unhappy because we did not spend fifteen million dollars on a wide receiver and we did not sign an offensive guard but they need to be patient. This is a rebuild that is still going to take some time if we want to do it right and not just get good players but get good player that specifically fit our scheme.
I personally am not going to be disappointed if we don’t make the Super Bowl this year. I would rather Kyle and Shanahan slowly kept building the team the way they are doing it. I expect us to draft a guard, a wide receiver and a couple of cornerbacks this year. Who knows? They may even draft an outside pass rusher or an inside linebacker at #9. But I doubt they still fill every hole.
A couple of things I am sure of though. Whoever we draft, they will fit a specific need and they will be coached properly to fill that need. I keep on saying this, I think we have some of the best teaching coaches in the NFL. These player won’t just succeed because the 49ers coaches and scouts have a good eye for talent, they are going to succeed because they are extremely well coached.
