Golden Nuggets: Richard Sherman speaks his mind

Richard Sherman had a press conference on Tuesday in Santa Clara and he is still defending the deal he negotiated on his behalf with the 49ers. He signed a 3 year deal that is tied to incentives to be on the field and to perform. There has been a lot of criticism about not using an agent and getting more money for his contract. He’s not worried about the contract and thinks other players will take that route in getting deals done.

As a veteran cornerback and coming off injury, he wants to get back on the field to contribute. But he also knows that he will be looked to mentor the young players on the team. His opposite corner, Ahkello Witherspoon is coming off a good rookie season. He could be helped tremendously by watching Richard Sherman prep, play, and by the words of advice Sherman could give him. Reuben Foster could also use a mentor. Richard is up to the task and hopefully he can help position Foster on a better path than he is currently on.

The 49ers announced the signing of veteran guard Jonathan Cooper. Cooper, a former 7th overall pick, played for the Dallas Cowboys last season. He was drafted in 2013 and is now going to his 5th team. He is expected to compete for a guard spot with Joshua Garnett and Laken Tomlinson also in the mix. The team is also bringing free agent Jaylen Watkins in for a workout. Jaylen last played for the Philadelphia Eagles. He has played safety and corner for Philly. If signed, he will add much needed depth to the defensive backfield.
