NFL Draft TV coverage is going to be slightly ridiculous this year

New, comments

It’s basically on every channel.

Fooch’s update: We are officially into draft week! It gets going on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT with the Dallas Cowboys hosting it at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. ESPN and NFL Network are your primary hosts, ESPN2 offering the College GameDay crew providing college analysis, and FOX simulcasting the NFL Network coverage. Each of the 32 fanbases will get their own section at the Cowboys stadium. The NFL also released a list of the draft prospects who have been invited to attend the festivities:

QB: Josh Allen (Wyoming), Sam Darnold (USC), Lamar Jackson (Louisville), Josh Rosen (UCLA)
RB: Saquon Barkley (Penn State), Derrius Guice (LSU)
OT: Kolton Miller (UCLA), Connor Williams (Texas)
DE: Bradley Chubb (N.C. State), Marcus Davenport (UTSA)
DT: Taven Bryan (Florida), Vita Vea (Washington)
LB: Tremaine Edmunds (Virginia Tech), Rashaan Evans (Alabama), Shaquem Griffin (Central Florida), Roquan Smith (Georgia), Leighton Vander Esch (Boise State)
CB: Jaire Alexander (Louisville), Josh Jackson (Iowa), Denzel Ward (Ohio State)
DB: Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)
S: Derwin James (Florida State)

The NFL announced television plans for the 2018 NFL Draft, and it is going to be kinda wild. In the past, ESPN and NFL Network provided all your draft coverage. This year, the coverage is expanding from two cable networks to four cable networks and two broadcast networks!

FOX purchased the rights to Thursday Night Football, and the deal includes a chance to simulcast NFL Network’s draft coverage. FOX will simulcast NFL Network’s first two days of coverage (rounds 1-3), and Troy Aikman will be joining NFL Network’s coverage. FOX’s schedule will not allow for day three coverage. To cover for that, ABC is going to simulcast ESPN’s day three coverage. This is the first time a basic broadcast network will be airing the draft.

The most interesting addition to the coverage is ESPN’s College GameDay crew. They will have coverage leading up to the start of the first two days, and then on day one of the draft, ESPN2 will broadcast GameDay to provide a college-themed look at the proceedings. That’s the first really original addition to draft coverage in some time.
