Good morning folks. The news is a day or so old at this point, but since I don’t do the Golden Nuggets, every day, I’m gonna talk at you about Richard Sherman’s contract and the fact that the NFL Players Association actually assisted him with his contract. Rather, he negotiated his deal, the NFLPA looked it over, and helped him with a few details.
Specifically, the detail about when Sherman would receive the $2 million roster bonus for passing a physical is the one that was changed. Previous reports had that date as late July or early August, but the language in the deal after the assist has Sherman getting until No. 20 to pass said physical.
It’s really cool of them to do so despite Sherman not going with an agent. This is definitely something they should be expected to do, but it’s good to see there was no weird situation where they had pressure from agents or anything like that. I think the 49ers were probably always OK with paying that amount on Nov. 20, but tried to give themselves an even bigger advantage with another potential out. It’s not a great loss for the team, but a potentially huge gain for Sherman.
