While the 49ers begin to figure out how they handle re-signing Carlos Hyde, a report came out from Pro Football Talk on Thursday suggesting that the 49ers are one of the teams interested in New England Patriots free agent Dion Lewis.
Lewis just got done with the best season of his career getting 896 rushing yards with an average of five yards per attempt. This also came with him being fortunate enough to start at least 15 games—something he hasn’t done since his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He also had 214 receiving yards.
It should be noted that these yards came with him giving up quite a few carries to Rex Burkhead, especially near the goal line.
The move would reunite Lewis with Jimmy Garoppolo, his former teammate from New England. It also could give the 49ers a solid kick returner. In 2017, Victor Bolden was the main returner, but he also shared some returns with Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert.
The report also states the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts are likely interested in Lewis.
Lewis seems like a decent fit in Shanahan’s offense, especially with his pass catching abilities. Would you look into bringing him to the 49ers?
