The Raiders have finally released Aldon Smith after many incidents with law enforcement that started back when he was a member of the 49ers. What was a career that started off looking like it had much promise has turned into “what could have been.”
Smith’s most recent run in with the law involved domestic violence with his new fiancee. Her family actually helped encourage and take him to rehab, which seems to be the root of the problem.
Smith was the 7th overall pick in the 2011 draft for the 49ers, and Trent Baalke’s claim to fame. He was protected by the 49ers and local law enforcement for a while until things ultimately got out of hand. After his third DUI in 2015, the 49ers released Smith. A month later he signed a one year deal with the Raiders
In his 59 games, Smith had 47.5 sacks, 141 tackles, one safety and one interception.
