Report: 2018 NFL salary cap set at $177.2 million

We now can stop speculating on where it will land.

The NFL Salary Cap has a number for 2018 and that number is $177.2 million. NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo broke the news and NFL.com reports that two NFL team executives confirmed it. The 2017 salary cap of $167 million marks the fifth time in as many years the salary cap has increased over $10 million

Now that we have a number in mind, the San Francisco 49ers know exactly how much salary cap space they have. Counting the Jimmy Garoppolo contract, the 49ers currently have $66,294,382 based on the numbers from Over The Cap.

This puts them at the 5th most room behind the Tampa Bay Bucaneers ($69,777,263), Indianapolis Colts ($72,700,202), New York Jets ($89,259,293) and the Cleveland Browns ($108,694,537).

The 49ers will also carry $15,054,569 in dead money for 2018.

Being 5th for money, the 49ers will definitely have some opportunities to find pieces to put around their recent big contract in Garoppolo. We’ll definitely go more into detail of just how much the 49ers can roll over to next year and such but for now, we have an idea of what they can do with the cash.
