The San Francisco 49ers may already be courting former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was sighted dining with Sherman at a restaurant on Friday, according to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic.
Specifically, Thompson cites “somebody who was at the restaurant,” and says that Shanahan dined with Sherman and his wife at Nick’s Next Door restaurant in Los Gatos. This isn’t the greatest of sources, but hey, if Thompson is running it, that’s good enough for me.
Sherman, 29, will be 30 when the 2018 season begins, and will be coming of a ruptured Achilles. That said, Sherman is one of the best coverage corners in the league and has been ever since he’s been in the league. The Seahawks moved on from him because they’re freeing cap space and rebuilding, not because they expect he won’t be able to recover in 2018.
It will be interesting to see if the 49ers bring him in. Obviously, I’m all for it. The guy talks a lot of trash, but he backs it up, and just imagine that first time you see Sherman picking off Russell Wilson. Imagine that.
It’s late, and there’s not a ton to go on right now, but Sherman has said he’d be willing to join a team that is younger at the position to help mentor the corners there. I think he’d do wonders for Ahkello Witherspoon.
