Jimmy Garoppolo has completely changed the expectations for the 49ers next season. The 49ers are many experts’ dark horse next season and most of that comes down to the way Jimmy looked in his starts last season. 49ers legend, Joe Montana believes it’s a little early for the Jimmy G hype. All the hype around Jimmy came after his perfect start to his 49ers career, so Joe is right in saying it’s early. A full season will go a long way to proving if the hype and expectations were right.
It’s only natural that Jimmy G was hyped. The 49ers were 1-10 until he started. He immediately led them to 5 straight wins. That coming after having little time to learning the offense due to the midseason trade. He now has a full offseason with Kyle Shanahan and the offense to learn the whole playbook. He should have better chemistry with his receivers with a training camp to work with them. The hype is tremendous, but Jimmy and the 49ers can prove that it is warranted if they have a good season.
To help Jimmy, the 49ers signed Jerrick McKinnon and added a couple of offensive linemen this offseason. In the draft, the 49ers are expected to pick another offensive linemen or 2 to help protect Jimmy. They will also likely draft another weapon. The 49ers will hope that Jimmy continues developing and leads them to the playoffs this season. If he does and they go on an extended playoff run, Joe Montana will have no choice but to believe in the hype that is surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo.
