One 49ers trade I would make, one 49ers trade I would definitely not make

New, comments

I would be surprised if either offer came about, but you never know on Draft day.

The San Francisco 49ers are in a good position to make a trade on day one of the 2018 NFL Draft. The team sits at No. 9 with plenty of teams looking to move up and maybe select a quarterback at the spot. We could see several trades around this area, but I expect the 49ers phone to be busy two Thursdays from now.

With two weeks remaining until the draft, media is coming up with any and all angles to discuss what has been discussed over and over again. Recently, the Good Morning Football program on NFL Network got a little crazy with the 49ers in their mock draft. They’re going one team at a time, and on Wednesday they offered up two trade options. And it’s safe to say, one is appealing, while one is decidedly not appealing. Here are the two offers:

New York Giants: WR Odell Beckham, Jr. FOR 1st, 2019 1st, 2019 2nd, Jimmie Ward

Buffalo Bills: No. 12, No. 53, WR Kelvin Benjamin FOR No. 9

Odell Beckham trade rumors might be coming to a close, but that does not close the door on a potential deal. And for purposes of hypothetical trades, of course it won’t stop them from being discussed. That being said, I would not do this deal. He’s incredibly talented, but that’s a high price to pay for a guy who you will also have to sign to a fairly lucrative extension. I’d consider this for a guy on a more price controlled deal, but I just don’t think it’s worth that kind of pay out.

The Bills deal on the other? I’m a big fan of that. A second round pick might be enough to get that kind of deal, but add in Benjamin and it gets interesting. Injuries were an issue last year, but he would give Jimmy Garoppolo a heck of a big body in the passing game. And given that No. 53 is enough in the trade value chart to do this deal, Benjamin is almost like a low risk high upside throw-in.

I would not actually expect this Bills offer in part because I think we see them push hard to move even higher in the draft. But if they could not get a deal higher and called John Lynch with this offer, I’d jump all over it.
