49ers release statement about Reuben Foster domestic violence charge

New, comments

It seems like he is not going anywhere for the time being.

The San Francisco 49ers have released a statement regarding the news that linebacker Reuben Foster faces a felony count of domestic violence, two other felonies, and a misdemeanor charge.

“The 49ers organization is aware of today’s disturbing charges regarding Reuben Foster. We will continue to follow this serious matter. Reuben is aware that his place in our organization is under great scrutiny and will depend on what is learned through the legal process.”

Jed York and John Lynch have both talked about the scrutiny Foster faces, but the comments seemed to suggest Foster would remain on the team. One big question has been what the 49ers think they know about this situation, particularly what Foster told them. He has been charged and the team’s statement suggests they will continue to wait through the legal process.

The team reports to their offseason workout program on Monday. It is entirely voluntary, but it is the first team activity since Foster was initially arrested. Will they ask him not to report while the legal process continues? This statement suggests they are waiting on how a potential trial goes, but honestly, I don’t really know what to think right now.

Ideally we’ll hear from John Lynch soon on this topic because this statement is generic enough to not really take as meaning much of anything.
