Report: 49ers bring in CB Josh Jackson for official visit

He’s got the length, but what about the sample size?

The San Francisco 49ers pursuit of secondary depth continued on Monday, with Matt Maiocco reporting the team brought in Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson for an official pre-draft visit.

The 49ers have occasionally been connected to Jackson in mock drafts, although Jackson has slipped as Denzel Ward has become the clear best option at the top of the cornerback board. Jackson was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s top defensive back.

Jackson has the kind of length the 49ers would like in press coverage, and he had a strong 2017 season. The big question is sample size, as this was his first as a season-long starter.

49ers tight end George Kittle played with Jackson at Iowa, and he told our own Jennifer Chan that he thinks the cornerback would fit the defense like a glove.

“Like a glove. He would sneak right in and do really well. That’s the kind of player he is. He’s a freak athlete. I got to do speed work against him all through college so that was really fun. I beat him in some things because I used to be 225 lbs. He’s fun and would be a great addition to the team. I mossed him all the time, you can ask him.” (laughing)
