Dez Bryant wants to play for the Giants, but Ravens are early favorites

New, comments

But odds offer a couple options for now.

The Dez Bryant free agency sweepstakes are off to a bit of a tepid start. Bryant made it clear he’d like a shot at revenge within the division, but visits have not yet begun.

Bryant recently specified his interest in the New York Giants in a chat with Mike Fisher.

“The Giants,’’ he says, “got a helluva defense, they’re going to pay OBJ (fellow wideout and pal Odell Beckham Jr.), so coming back. Playing with him, Sterling (Shepard) ... the tight end (Evan Engram), (QB Eli) Manning? Crazy. ... They draft (Penn State running back Saquan Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick)? That’d be crazy!’’

Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the Baltimore Ravens have shown the most interest thus far. Additionally, Tyrann Mathieu has apparently lobbied Bryant about joining him in Houston.

For the time being, odds have shaken up a bit now that things are settling down. Bovada released their latest odds, and Baltimore leads the way at 3/1.

Baltimore Ravens: 3/1
Houston Texans: 4/1
Green Bay Packers: 5/1
New Orleans Saints: 5/1
Washington Redskins: 5/1
New England Patriots: 6/1
Buffalo Bills: 8/1
San Francisco 49ers: 8/1
New York Giants: 10/1

The 49ers are down near the bottom, but one thing did jump out at me today. ESPN NFL reporter Josina Anderson tweeted out a query, asking if Dez Bryant and the 49ers are the best fit. It was a simple tweet that seemed to be more about generating discussion than anything else.

That being said, Anderson has plenty of connections. She did not put a “sources say” or anything like that with the tweet, but I’m curious if we should read more into this tweet, or if this is just a random chance for discussion. I don’t expect the 49ers to sign Bryant, but I’ve been surprised before.
