The San Francisco 49ers signed center Weston Richburg and offensive guard Jonathan Cooper earlier this offseason, but they are unlikely to be finished adding interior line depth. The team brought in Ohio State center Billy Price for a pre-draft visit, according to Matt Barrows.
Price was a four-year starter at Ohio State, and he played all three interior line positions during his time there. He played left guard as a freshman and sophomore, right guard as a junior, and center as a senior. Scouting reports love that he plays with an edge, but his aggressiveness can also be used against him — particularly given the kinds of veterans he will face in the NFL. He brings inconsistency, but I imagine any offensive line coach will talk him up to the personnel folks as a guy they can develop.
A big reason to bring him in for a visit would be to check out his torn pectoral muscle. He tore his pec during a bench press test leading up to the Combine. He had surgery and in a re-check was confirmed to be ahead of schedule in his recovery. He said at his Pro Day that he should be good for on-field work in June. Given that minicamp is over by mid-June, my guess is he would see little on-field work, if any before training camp.
