Key sentence: The charges against Foster “were based on lies." pic.twitter.com/kLrpjy0ugU
The woman who accused San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster of domestic violence has recanted her claims. His former girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, released a statement through her attorney, and Matt Maiocco has the full rundown.
According to the statement, Foster, “did not strike her, injure her or threaten her” and that the injuries were the result of a fight with another woman. According to Foster’s ex-girlfriend, Foster tried to end his relationship after he learned of the fight, and Ennis, “was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would ‘trash his career,’” There is apparently a video of the fight with another woman
The Santa Clara District Attorney has filed charges against Foster, and the DA said they were confident proceeding with the case even without the woman’s testimony against Foster. This decision to recant her testimony officially puts the DA on the spot with regard to the domestic violence and criminal threats charge. It may have no bearing on the gun charge, however.
I have to think the DA will have a statement at some point as to how they will proceed in light of this new information.
