49ers might be trying to trade Trent Brown to Broncos for 2nd round pick

This would certainly be something.

Fooch’s update: Or not. Allbright has good Denver sources.

We have our first notable rumor for the San Francisco 49ers as the 2018 NFL Draft approaches! The team is attempting to trade right tackle Trent Brown to the Denver Broncos for a second round pick, according to San Luis Obispo sports reporter Chance Dickman.

I do not know who Dickman is, but this does not seem like something you just tweet out to tweet out. There is one big question mark however. Trent Brown is rehabbing from a torn labrum, and is unlikely to be able to participate in on-field drills at an offseason workout program.

On the Broncos side of things, they have Garett Bolles signed through 2020, and they recently sent a sixth round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for Jared Veldheer. That does not mean they aren’t looking to improve, and we don’t know when these two sides first initiated discussions.

Brown is a free agent after the coming season, and the 49ers have been hesitant about his future. Weight and inconsistency have raised questions about his future with the team. All of this added together makes it surprising to see the Broncos willing to give up a second round pick for him.

I am a little skeptical, but the teams have until tomorrow afternoon to get something done if discussions are heating up. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will likely meet with the media later tonight after the first round ends for the team. We’ll see if they have something to say on this.
