Fooch’s update: We have details on the trade! Per Field Yates and Adam Schefter, the 49ers are trading Trent Brown and their fifth round pick (No. 143 overall) to the Patriots for New England’s third round pick (No. 95 overall).
The San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots are reportedly engaged in discussions about offensive tackle Trent Brown, and Robert Kraft might have let the cat out of the bag. The Patriots owner met with media Friday morning, and he said the team has traded for a west coast offensive lineman. He said the deal, whomever it might be for, will be announced soon.
Since that initial report, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said the 49ers and Patriots are closing in on a deal for Trent Brown. There is no word yet on the kind of draft pick compensation that it would entail.
The Patriots are re-tooling their offensive line, having drafted a guard on Thursday. Brown would slot right in at right tackle, while the 49ers would in turn be moving their first round pick, Mike McGlinchey, into their own right tackle spot. He would book-end with Joe Staley, and then potentially replace Staley when the long-time 49er eventually retires.
