Best players available heading into final day of the draft

New, comments

The 49ers could have some intriguing talent to choose from on Saturday.

The San Francisco 49ers were busy on Friday, making two trades (Trent Brown and a mid-draft trade) and walking away with three players. The team ended up selecting wide receiver Dante Pettis, linebacker Fred Warner, and defensive back Tarvarius Moore. They join offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey in filling out the first two days of the 49ers draft class.

The 49ers head into the final day of the draft with five picks remaining, including two in the seventh round. McGlinchey filled an immediate need given that the team was looking to move on from Trent Brown at right tackle. Warner and Moore do not fill “pressing” needs, but they provide defensive versatility that could be big for developing this defense next year and beyond.

The question now is what the team will do on day three. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar put together his look at best players available after the third round. There are some potential edge prospects in Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Duke Ejiofor, and Josh Sweat. I thought edge rusher was a big need coming into the draft, but clearly the 49ers were more comfortable with their existing pool of talent. That being said, I could see an early day three addition to the mix.

I’m curious to see if they go tight end at some point to compete with George Kittle, Garrett Celek, and company. Ian Thomas, Troy Fumagalli, Christopher Herndon, and Durham Smythe are all out there. Jaylen Samuels is more of a Swiss Army Knife type option.

Guard remains a big question to a certain degree. Jonathan Cooper, Laken Tomlinson, Joshua Garnett, and Erik Magnuson are all competing for the two starting guard positions. The best guards available include Taylor Hearn, Wyatt Teller, David Bright, Sean Welsh, and Cole Madison.

The 49ers next pick is at No. 28 in the fourth round (No. 128 overall). Who are you hoping the 49ers target when their first pick of Saturday comes around?
