The 2018 NFL Draft is a wrap! We’ve made it through three days of draft picks, and now we move on to the craziest part of the week, undrafted free agency. Undrafted players will commit to multiple teams, teams will change their minds about a player, and simply put, there will be all sorts of other craziness for the next 24 or 48 hours. Things settle down heading into next week, but it will be the wild west for the time being.
The San Francisco 49ers have 82 players on their roster following the draft. That leaves them eight spots for UDFAs to fill out the 90-man roster. Odds are good they end up signing more than eight players and releasing players from their current roster. There will be plenty of turnover in the next week or two.
The 49ers ended up with six defensive players and three offensive players, but it likely won’t dictate what they do in undrafted free agency. They will want some camp depth at certain positions, but UDFAs are lottery tickets that you hope to develop into a decent talent. The 49ers have managed to turn some of them into impact players, but there are no guarantees. So, you just find the best players you can regardless of position, and hope for the best.
