The Los Angeles Rams have made yet another trade. The team is sending their first round pick and sixth round pick int he 2018 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots for wide receiver Brandin Cooks and a fourth round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Rams had been mentioned as a possible destination for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., but clearly they are more comfortable with this situation. There had been talk they would need to send a pair of first round picks to get OBJ. Although OBJ is a better talent than Cooks, the Rams are still getting a big threat for Jared Goff. They lost Sammy Watkins in free agency. Cooks is an able replacement if he can stay healthy.
The NFC West arms race has turned into all Rams all the time. The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of solid talent, but this move only amplifies how much they need secondary help. They have starters at all five positions (assuming the nickel), but they have little depth after that. I don’t think this changes the need for the 49ers, but like I said, it amplifies the existing need.
