San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with Adam Schefter at the NFL owners’ meetings and had one unfortunate quote we all need to highlight for everyone to see. See, here at Niners Nation, the 23-0 claim has become just as prominent as KSWOF.
This year, with Jimmy Garoppolo under center and having not lost a start in his five games doing so, the calls for 23-0 grow louder by the minute. Everyone is confident that this is the year “loss” and “49ers” cannot be attributed together. That is, unless Shanahan has something to say about it:
I’m pretty confident to say we won’t go undefeated. If we do, congrats. I hope I’m wrong about that. I’m not thinking that we will.
Dagger. There you have it, you might believe in the team, but Shanahan does not believe in the record. Super Bowl, perhaps. But undefeated, 16-0, let alone 23-0, that is simply not something he believes will happen. This is almost as bad as the radio call saying, “There will be no three-peat.” Almost.
The dream is dead.
