The San Francisco 49ers have an official pre-draft visit scheduled with linebacker/safety Foye Oluokon, according to NFL Draft Scout analyst Dane Brugler. The news comes a few days after we learned the team had met with Oluokon at the Yale Pro Day.
Oluokon is an intriguing player at 6’1, 230 pounds. He is described as a linebacker and safety, and it would seem like a team could use him as a versatile threat. We’ve heard plenty about the money backer position, and he seemingly could be a guy who offers a bit more size for sub-packages.
The 49ers will use a basic 4-3 defense, but the real base is having a fifth defensive back on the field. Sometimes it might be a smaller cornerback, sometimes it might be a bigger safety. Safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James have both been mentioned as first round options. But maybe the 49ers go pass rush or another direction in the first and roll the dice on a hybrid option later in the draft.
