Report: 49ers to bring in LSU edge-rusher Arden Key for official visit

Edge-rusher is seen as a huge need in this year’s draft. Perhaps they might have found their...Key?

The San Francisco 49ers are filling up their official pre-draft visits and now have LSU linebacker Arden Key added to their schedule—both for a visit and a trip to LSU to work out. The pass rusher will be starting a tour Monday next week and holding a workout for the 49ers following a trip to meet with Washington and the Tennessee Titans, per NFL.com. Key will have an official visit with the 49ers following a workout with the New Orleans Saints.

Key had a huge sophomore season, recording 12 sacks and setting a school record. His junior season was less than impressive where he played in only eight games and managed four sacks from them. Prior to his junior year he was projected as a possible number 1 overall pick by CBS Sports.

There’s a few other issues with Key as well. According to his draft profile at NFL.com, he left the team in spring of 2017 for “personal reasons” (listed as getting shoulder surgery) and returned roughly 30 pounds overweight.

Key is projected as a first or second round pick according to NFL.com and the fourth best edge-rusher from this year’s class. Perhaps the 49ers are looking to use their second, or dare we say it, third round pick on their edge-rusher with Key.
