Good morning! So if you didn’t know, the San Francisco 49ers were interested in Washington defensive tackle Terrell McClain. Turns out it was just that: interest. McClain has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
I’m not really sure what the 49ers were going to do with McClain if they got him. He was absolutely disappointing with Washington. He’d be solid depth for sure, but I think he’d go back to a 4-3 and probably look at starting, and the 49ers have their own roster with grown draft picks to figure out as far as defensive tackles are concerned. I’m not giving up on Solomon Thomas as I think he still can be a powerhouse in the NFL, and DeForest Buckner is an absolute beast (another reason why the 49ers have a surplus in salary cap space for the inevitable payday he’ll get). The Falcons already have a decent line, so I’m curious how McClain fits into their plans. He’s getting up there in age (he’ll be 30 when the season starts), so perhaps he will be depth.
So the McClain dream is not happening for the three or four or more fans that had their heart set on him. Onto your links!
