The NFLPA hosted their annual rookie premiere event in Los Angeles this weekend, and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis was in attendance. The event featured 40 of the top rookies in this year’s draft class, and is a union-specific rookie orientation. They focus on the business side of things, and it gives the players a chance to visit with various NFLPA business partners.
The event usually focuses on offensive skill position players, with some notable defensive players also in the mix. They take a rookie class photo, which you can see above, or here. It looks like Pettis made a change to his hair. He previously had some purple dyed into it, but now it’s back to a blonde look. We’ll just say he was going with “gold” given his new team.
Pettis will get a chance to crack the wide receiver corps, but if he’s going to make a name for himself as a rookie, I suspect it will be as a return man. He set college records as Washington’s punt returner, including returning nine punts for touchdowns. Trent Taylor was very capable as the 49ers punt returner last season, but Pettis could bring game-breaking ability at the position. A few big punt returns and he’ll be jumping on people’s radars in a hurry.
