The San Francisco 49ers open rookie minicamp practice on Friday, which means new uniform numbers to be handed out. The team announced them on Thursday when the rookies first arrived at camp.
These numbers are not final, and we are also seeing changes within the existing roster. Free safety Adrian Colbert switched from No. 38 to No. 27. He did not specify why he made the change. Last season, he got a lot of comments about being the next Dashon Goldson. He tried to make clear he wanted to be his own person, so maybe that’s why he made the switch this year.
Here is a list of the new roster numbers, courtesy of Chris Biderman. An offensive and defensive player are allowed to share numbers during the offseason and through the preseason. We’ll see some number changes as roster cuts happen, and then everybody settles on a number after final roster cuts.
