Good morning folks, it’s been a quiet couple of days since the last OTA session, except for Victor Bolden’s PED suspension and Terrell Owens seemingly wanting to play for John Lynch at veteran minimum. However, the team will wrap up their OTAs this week, with workdays on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (the 4th, 5th, and 7th) before starting their mandatory 3-day Minicamp the following Tuesday.
Due to the slow news cycle, it’s unsurprising that many of the articles written about the 49ers are more on the editorial side, rather than the reporting side, but at least we’ve got a pair of them today that make for good discussion. One of them lists 3 glaring issues that have not necessarily been answered yet through OTAs. Although it’s a solid article that includes first-hand sources, it’s effectively a rehash of, well, any given comments section here at Niners Nation. Worth a read for sure, but if I can save you a click - it’s about Jimmie Ward’s lack of a defined position, no definitive answers at LEO, and the tentative nature of the guard competition. I bet you could’ve guessed that on your own, though.
However, Dylan DeSimone put together a good, comprehensive look at some of the bottom-of-the-roster options who have a legitimate chance to make some noise at their particular positions. It was an odd feeling looking through this article and realizing that, although the top-end talent isn’t where it needs to be at all positions (yet), it seems that there’s a glut of potential contributors toward the end of the roster that are just waiting for a chance. Some of the options include the oddly controversial Ronald Blair, IOF-candidate Cole Hikutini, and undrafted rookie Tarvarus McFadden. There really is something there for everyone to enjoy, and I’d highly recommend a look.
