49ers waive DB Trovon Reed

A practice squad player, Reed had an uphill battle to make a main roster.

The San Francisco 49ers have released defensive back Trovon Reed per Pro Football Talk. Reed came to the team in late December of 2017, filling in a practice squad role left over by Tyvis Powell.

An undrafted free agent, Reed has spent time with several NFL clubs; The Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins and (then) San Diego Chargers. His lone NFL action came on the Chargers playing six games with a pair of interceptions, three passes defended and six tackles.

The 49ers secondary has been beefed up in the offseason through free agency and the draft and Reed already had an uphill battle to make the roster. He was added so late in 2017, that it seemed like he was brought as a future camp body anyways, so this release isn’t too surprising.
