The San Francisco 49ers lost one of their legends on Monday. Dwight Clark passed away at 61 years old after battling with ALS. His wife, Kelly, made the announcement on Twitter. Dwight, who was battling with ALS for the past year was one of the most beloved 49ers ever. His iconic play “The Catch” jumpstarted the 49ers’ Super Bowl run. That play will live as one of the top plays in NFL history, but it is the top play in 49ers history.

When Clark announced that he had ALS last year, it was a shock to the 49ers, their fanbase, and the NFL. He was honored last season during halftime of the 49ers-Dallas Cowboys game. He spoke to the 49ers fans and thanked everyone for their support as he battled ALS. Former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. was on hand to show his support for the man that helped change the 49ers franchise.

Dwight won 2 Super Bowls with the 49ers. Current and former 49ers made statements about Dwight on social media. He will be missed by the 49ers fanbase and by the organization. He will always remain one of the most beloved 49ers to ever play and his legacy lives on forever. He has a special place in the hearts of the fans and the organization.
