Good morning, and a happy Sunday to everyone. It was a rather quiet Saturday in terms of 49ers news - in fact, nothing at all happened.
The first article, which ranks the QBs of the NFC West, is an exercise in using a slideshow format to cherrypick statistics to proclaim that Jimmy Garoppolo is better than Jared Goff. Which he is, don’t get me wrong. Naturally, the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson is ranked head of the class, and NFC West old-newcomer (?) Sam Bradford in last place. To the author’s credit, he did make sure to include the fact that Bradford’s positioning on that list is precarious, as first round rookie QB Josh Rosen is expected to be breathing down his neck. Obviously, Rosen should take care to not breathe too heavily, as it may result in adding on to Bradford’s impressively lengthy injury history.
The second part of today’s selections is an overview of LB Malcolm Smith in the same vein as our 90-in-90 series here. It’s a well written piece that provides a brief overview of his history, why he might succeed or regress, salary cap implications, and expected role with the team in 2018. It’s worth a read if you missed ours from early May.
So, I’ll be taking over these Sunday morning Golden Nuggets for the foreseeable future, adding it to my currently scheduled Thursday and Monday morning editions. Other than the strange “How you like me now, NCAA” Saturday games in December, I’ll be here to start your gamedays off just right. All of them.
