Jimmy Garoppolo was the biggest addition to the 49ers last season, but not too far behind would probably be Marquise Goodwin. Goodwin came via free agency from Buffalo after 4 seasons. His time there was unspectacular. But in his 1st season as a 49er, he had a breakout season with 56 catches and just shy of 1,000 yards. This includes Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard throwing to him.
Marquise could be poised for an even better 2018. He has Jimmy Garoppolo throwing to him for a whole season and based on the limited playing time together last season, Marquise is one of Jimmy’s favorite targets. Another full offseason to practice in Kyle Shanahan’s offense should help strengthen their bond. Also helping him out will be the return of Pierre Garcon, the emergence of Trent Taylor, the drafting of Dante Pettis, and defenses having to account for Jerick McKinnon. Having those weapons around should free him up to terrorize defenses.
The 49ers are hoping for Marquise to continue to develop as a receiver and they rewarded him with a 3-year extension. If he continues to excel, he could be one of the best signings they’ve had in a few years and could become one of the top receivers in the NFL.
