On Saturday, we discussed Peter King’s recent KNBR appearance and his praise towards San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. King referred to Garoppolo as, “the most compelling story in the NFL this year.”
Well, KNBR wasn’t going to be the end of King’s praise of Jimmy G. He took to Good Morning Football and added on to his initial statement. In fact, he went further than that continuing on that Garoppolo may be a top-five quarterback when all of this is over:
“Because if you look at Jimmy Garoppolo and what he did last year, the 49ers were a woebegone, wayward, lousy team. And he comes in, he wins the last five [games] of the year, putting up all these points. The combination, I walked down one of the fairways last week with Tony Romo, and he could not stop talking about what a huge advantage Kyle Shanahan is for a young quarterback. He said, it comes on first down. Everybody knows how to call plays on second and third down. He said, “First down is the money down.” Chunk plays on first down. He said, “Go look that up last year.” Jimmy Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan are going to be great at that. I just think, by the end of this year, we’re going to be talking about Jimmy Garoppolo as a top-five quarterback in the NFL.”
No doubt Jimmy Garoppolo has one of the best opportunities any quarterback could ask for, and he has been trained for this very moment by two of the brightest minds in football. I don’t think I’ve seen this much heaved on him. First he’s a the most compelling story, now he’s a top-five quarterback at the close of 2018.
What’s next after top-five?
