7 predictions for 49ers training camp as the pads go on

New, comments

The 49ers have two practices under their belt, and Saturday brings the first padded practice. Time for a handful of predictions.

The San Francisco 49ers are through two days of practice, and the pads go on for the first time on Saturday. Two weeks from today the 49ers will have already completed their first preseason game, and six weeks from now, the team will be approaching Week 1!

Things will happen in a hurry, so I thought now would be a good time for some last predictions before the pads go on. I offered up this query on Twitter, and naturally there is little consensus for a lot of these. But go ahead and copy and paste these categories into the comments and offer your predictions.

Under the Radar:

For my early predictions, we’ll go with these:

Breakout Guy: George Kittle — He’s healthy, and if he can remain that way, he’ll become a favorite of Jimmy G
Comeback Kid: DB Jimmie WardRichard Sherman seems too easy a choice)
Rising Star: CB Ahkello Witherspoon — this kid is going places
Don’t Forget About: WR Trent Taylor — people will forget him while he is on the PUP list.
Needs to Rebound: OG Joshua Garnett — gonna be a tough one with Jonathan Cooper getting a decent-sized guarantee.
Darkhorse: Kendrick Bourne — he’s gotten some pub, but he still remains down the depth chart
Under the Radar: Jaquiski TarttAdrian Colbert gets more publicity, but Tartt could be a stout option at strong safety
