The San Francisco 49ers return to practice Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m., marking their last practice before the first player day off of training camp. The team provided some injury report details, and most notably, cornerback Richard Sherman will be back at practice, according to Jennifer Chan.
At the opening of camp, Kyle Shanahan said the plan was to have Sherman practice two days, then get a day off. On that off-day (the team’s first day in pads), the training staff would evaluate him and decide if he was good to return to practice. Sherman took part in mandatory minicamp, and was cleared for training camp. However, given the process of rehabbing his torn Achilles, it is good to hear he is able to return after one day off, rather than potentially needing more time off.
Garry Gilliam had an elbow issue that resulted in a day off yesterday, but he is returning. Joe Staley, Earl Mitchell, and Pierre Garçon are all headed back to practice after a veteran’s day off. Guard Joshua Garnett will not be practicing as he banged knees with another player on Saturday. It is not believed to be serious.
