C.J. Beathard will be in Canton for Bobby Beathard’s HOF induction

Beathard didn’t ask for the day off, but Kyle Shanahan knew how much it meant and made him go.

If you ever want to know how hard of a worker or how good of a teammate C.J. Beathard is, look no further than a quick story by Kyle Shanahan at his Wednesday post-practice press conference. We’ll have a transcript later today, but a question did come on on Beathard’s status for induction weekend.

Beathard is the grandson of Bobby Beathard, a successful general manager in the NFL who has won four Super Bowl titles in his career. Two with the Miami Dolphins and two with Washington (where he was GM).

The elder Beathard will be getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday in Canton Ohio. Shanahan said that the induction met a lot to his grandson, though C.J. wouldn’t show it:

I know it means a lot to him. He would never tell us, he definitely didn’t ask [for the day off], and when I told him he had to go, and he didn’t have a choice, then he told us how thankful he was.

The induction day should work out since Saturday is a day off for the players, but Shanahan noted that Beathard will probably be getting Sunday off given layovers and flights.

While it’s cool the coaching staff is being flexible with this, it’s definitely speaks to Beathard as a worker and a teammate to not be turning in a time-off request the moment his grandfather was inducted. Says a lot.
