Jerick McKinnon to get an MRI on knee

He looked ok, he said he was ok, but the 49ers are going to make sure.

It’s been an up and down day trying to pinpoint Jerick McKinnon’s injury The San Francisco 49ers running back was seen hobbling around, favoring his right knee but after an initial medical evaluation, was not being observed, so it seemed like the 49ers just had a scare. McKinnon told Matt Maiocco he was fine as well.

Well, the 49ers have announced that McKinnon is going in to get an MRI done on the knee. This could mean that the injury is more serious, it could be the 49ers are doing their due diligence to make sure it is just as they thought—nothing serious. Or it’s already getting worse.

With Matt Breida out due to his shoulder, Raheem Mostert has been taking snaps with the first team at Sunday’s practice, if McKinnon is out for any amount of time, Mostert would be most likely be sharing snaps with Joe Williams once the latter returns to practice (Williams was attending a funeral Sunday). McKinnon’s injury is anything severe, that would put Matt Breida at the front of the running back depth chart-once he’s healthy.

The 49ers seem to have gotten inundated with injuries since Thursday’s preaseason game. Hopefully this is the last of them.
