Due all the running backs getting injured, the San Francsico 49ers went out and brought in Alfred Morris.
I like it!
I don’t know how this will shape out, and since Washington lost one of their own running backs for the season, it was only a matter of time before Morris was signed somewhere. It’s a great system fit, given the best years of Morris’ career were in Kyle Shanahan’s system. Morris does have some tread, but he could maybe carve himself out as a RB3 in Shanahan’s system if Raheem Mostert doesn’t show up, or if Joe Williams doesn’t separate himself.
Or, Morris gets cut on the way to the 53. Either way, it’s a move that makes sense and this is the best spot for him if he’s going to play anywhere. I’m definitely concerned with how Matt Breida and Jerick McKinnon’s injuries pan out. It’s supposedly not too serious but you can never predict timetables. In a worse case scenario with Morris, Mostert, and Williams, the 49ers could definitely do a lot worse.
I definitely hope it’s not a worst case scenario, though.
