The San Francisco 49ers are into their Thursday practice and it’s highlighted by Jimmy Garoppolo...well being Jimmy Garoppolo with some bombs. Unfortunately, there is a sad moment as the first significant injury occurred. Post practice reports indicate tight end Cole Wick was carted off the field. For now it’s just listed as a knee injury, but we should get some answers shortly. The 49ers have been pretty good at dodging early injuries, Joshua Garnett remains out (which is surprising) and Jimmie Ward remains day-to-day as well.
Wick had a slim chance of making the team, especially when the 49ers have Garrett Celek, George Kittle, and Cole Hikutini above him on the roster, however, Kyle Shanahan conveyed to John Lynch he needed another tight end the other day due to Hikutini’s groin injury, and he is expected to miss the rest of the week. If Wick’s injury is something severe, they are going to need to go back to the pool for another one.
If that’s the case, we can only hope this is the last time they need to add one to the roster due to injury.
