49ers defensive line gets full contingent for preseason Week 3

The 49ers released their inactives, and the team welcomes back Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas.

The San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts announced their inactives for preseason Week 3, and plenty of notable names will be sidelined. The 49ers will continue to be without running backs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida. Additionally, swing tackle Garry Gilliam and tight end George Kittle will be inactive.

Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas will both be active for the game, the first for Thomas since the Cowboys game, and Armstead’s first this preseason. It will give the defensive line its first crack at what they can all do together. Additionally, K’Waun Williams and Malcolm Smith are both active for the dress rehearsal.

The 49ers run defense will not get quite the test they might have wanted, with running backs Marlon Mack and Robert Turbin and left tackle Anthony Castonzo all inactive. Castonzo’s absence also means we might see a little something more from the pass rush off the left side.

Here’s the full list of 49ers and Colts inactives.

49ers: RB Matt Breida, OL Garry Gilliam, DB Marcell Harris, TE George Kittle, OL Erik Magnuson, WR Max McCaffrey, RB Jerick McKinnon, RB Joe Williams
