On Saturday, the 49ers wrapped up their third preseason game, against the Colts in Indianapolis. Although they ultimately lost, the first team offense put together some impressive tape - headlined by the offensive line really moving in the run game, and RB Alfred Morris piling successful runs one after another. The passing game was, in actuality, slightly better than it looked, as receivers had an unusual case of the dropsies on Saturday - drives were stalled very regularly because of this. Garoppolo, otherwise, had a great day.
The defense was stout against the run, and Richard Sherman had a fine day in pass defense. Reuben Foster made a visit to the medical tent, ending his day prematurely - as did Jimmie Ward. Penalties continued be an issue, although it did seem that most of the flags were thrown at second or third teams.
The 49ers finish up their preseason next Thursday at home against the Chargers. Of course, the "dress rehearsal" game is already over - so now it's down to just the bubble watch. It seems like every positional group, save quarterback, perhaps, has at least one legitimate competition at the back end of the depth chart - so this upcoming fourth game should still be very worthwhile.
