49ers trade 2019 seventh rounder for Browns offensive tackle Shon Coleman, announce 12 releases

The 49ers will need to get some offensive line depth. Coleman apparently is that.

The San Francisco 49ers are making numerous decisions on where the 53-man roster will shake up. While cutting players is what to expect, the team has traded with the Cleveland Browns for Shon Coleman.

In exchange, San Francisco will send a 2019 seventh round pick to the Browns. This is all pending on if Coleman can pass his physical.

Coleman was a 3rd round pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He started in 23 games for the Browns, 16 of those (a full season) were in 2017. Given the depth concerns on the line, and Kyle Shanahan stating Gary Gilliam was in the concussion protocol still, the move is probably a result of both. Coleman will most likely be on the sidelines learning the playbook and maybe can come in when one of the starters go down. Hopefully he’s not starting a game for a few weeks as Shanahan’s playbook isn’t the easiest to learn, and he’s coming in late.

The 49ers also announced all 12 of the releases reported on today:

Ja’Quan Gardner

Jack Heneghan
