The San Francisco 49ers return to practice Sunday and it looks like both Joshua Garnett and Richard Sherman will be taking it easy this week per the pre-practice injury reports. They will be joining Arik Armstead as non-participants for the week. This means you won’t see Sherman for Week 1’s Cowboys preseason game. Given that it’s the preseason, he might not have played anyways, but this is confirmation that he definitely will not see the field Thursday.
Sherman went down with a hamstring issue on Friday and was pulled as a precaution. By all indications it wasn’t anything serious, but the 49ers are definitely playing it safe with his return.
Garnett sought second opinions on his knee and found he won’t need surgery, but 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said it was concerning when Garnett couldn’t return to practice Thursday last week. It sounds like he’ll get a bit more time rehab the issue and return in a week.
Also going week to week will be Brock Coyle (hip) and JP Flynn (knee).
Cole Wick (knee) and Fred Warner (chest) are both day to day while Cole Hikutini will be limited in practice for Sunday.
